Congressman Souder is an Embarrassment

There were a number of topics I wanted to post about today but I was just too busy. Souder's ignorant comments about Islam were on the top of my list, but instead of going off on my own rant I'll simply link to Blue Indiana where Thomas rightfully chastises Souder who is now borderline insane in my opinion:
If you talk to any mainstream Muslim -- and I have on quite a few occasions -- you will find nothing but anger and hatred in their heart for the things that are done in the name of their faith.

When was the last time you heard Rep. Mark Souder decry the acts done in the name of Jesus Christ? Every faith has problematic elements in their holy texts should they be taken literally. Souder is out of touch with his constituents, but he is increasingly out of touch with reality in general.

Thomas can see it; the people of Fort Wayne can see it. So to the rest of the 3rd District I can only ask

Had Enough?

From Leviticus:

Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones.

For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

Further,
Sleeping w/ father's wife - Death
Sleep w/ Daughter-in-Law - Death
Homosexuality - Death
Bestiality - Death (for the animal, too - and they weren't even consenting!

And Islam is the religion of killing?

Jeff,

Here's a comment I recently left at Chestnut Tree Cafe:

Bartleby,

I strongly disagree with your calling Souder a pudgy little freak.

Point number one: Souder claimed conscientious objector status during Vietnam. I had a professor who said a man in his unit was a C.O. This man went everywhere the rest of them went. He did not carry a weapon, but if a man fell he was the one that would run out and drag him back in. Well, Souder got over his conscience enough to not object to the war in Iraq. Then after public opinion began to turn against the war, Souder suddenly lost his hawkishness.

Point number two: Souder promised he'd serve only twelve years. But he later amended this to say that the redistricting (which usually occurs every ten years) nullifies this. So he can now effectively run for life.

The first point speaks to his courage, the second to his veracity. Mark Souder is, in my opinion, a coward and a liar. He is the worst person we could have "representing" us.

As I said, I strongly object to your classification of Souder - you're being too kind.

Jeff, I will now amend my opinion to say that I think Mark Souder is a lying and cowardly ignoramus.

Mark Souder probably wouldn't recognize the things that were done in the name of Christianity because he would see a separation between his form of Christianity and Catholicism. He would say that Catholics committed all the crimes, not his good conservative protests.

The only thing stupider than Souder's comments in the Sunday paper is the fact that Congress is wasting time taking votes on whether to pay tribute to various religions instead of doing real work to solve real problems.

Phil, I couldn't have expressed it better. My hat's off to you.

And Vic, you have to remember that when politicians are talking about killer Muslims it's only the killer Christians they're addressing anyway. Explaining that there are Muslims of intelligence and class to Christians who possess neither is a pointless exercise. But, again, well said and I couldn't agree more.

Whenever Souder proffers his Biblical bona fides, what comes to mind is the injunction against false prophets. I guess that part of the Bible is the one most scrupulously avoided in the churches of his followers.
