We, the people, want impeachment NOW!

Yesterday, George Bush decided to let Scooter Libby, the one man who was convicted for the lies around the Iraq war, avoid serving out his prison sentence. Even Paris Hilton served more jail time than he will. And letting Libby off the hook is only the most recent example of a consistent Bush administration pattern of obstruction of justice. Warrantless wiretaps, Alberto Gonzalez, the original outing of Valerie Plame; we're all familiar with the numerous past transgressions by these criminals.

As they say in civics class, America is a country of laws, not of men. It's time for Congress to stand up and use those laws to rid our country of the men who are systematically dismantling our constitution and ignoring the checks and balances that have always protected our democracy. Bush and Cheney think their administration is above the law. That's un-American, and this July 4th it's time for Congress to re-assert its constitutional authority and stop the administration's obstruction of justice.

Congress can start by demanding answers from the Bush administration about the Iraq war and their illegal spying program, and not backing down until they get them. Cheney won't testify? Subpoena him. He won't come? Hold him in contempt of Congress and send over the police. And if that doesn't work, impeach the guy. We just can't let President Bush and his administration continue to wipe their feet on our Constitution.

Let's celebrate Independence Day by reaffirming the basic, founding idea of our government: No one, not even the president of the United States, is above the law. Sign this petition to urge Congress to act NOW! If enough of us make enough noise, and for long enough, and from all corners of our country, then perhaps this Congress will stiffen it's spine and move to remedy the poison that has seeped into our land for far too long now.

After you've signed the petition and pestered your own Congress critter, join me by copying this post to your own blog, and adding your blog to the list below. Let's take this message of unity and support to every corner of America, and show just how many of us are ready to take back America!

We, the undersigned bloggers of America, agreeing that dissent is the truest form of patriotism, hereby publicly voice our unanimous discontent with the Bush administration and beseech the Congress of the United States of America to provide redress by immediately initiating impeachment proceedings against George W. Bush and Richard Cheney.

There were no lies around the Iraq war. Saying so over and over does not make it so.

Exercising a constitutional power is not obstruction of justice.

Criminals? Name the crime. The fact that you don't like what the administration has done does not make it a crime.

Demanding answers? I'm not sure that the Kennedy assasination was investigated more than the Iraq war. Subpoena? Show me in the Constitution where Congress has the right to subpoena. Where in the Constitution does Congress have the right to hold someone in contempt? It just may be Congress that is wiping something with our Constitution.

Name the crime.

nhshutter, you are joking, right? You do know that George Bush told us Iraq was seeking Yellow Cake uranium from Niger during his State of the Union Address AFTER he was informed that it wasn't true. I'm assuming that you recall that the administration told us they were 100% sure about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and that al Qaeda had ties to Saddam Hussein. I'm also assuming that you already know that both of those "assertions" were proven false. You do recall that in May 2003, GW Bush told us that major combat in Iraq was over - if you think that was the truth, I have a bridge over the Maumee River I want to sell you.

As for the crime(s). Bush swore to preserve protect and defend the Constitution. I have attempted to deliver petitions to the White House only to have them refused. Uh, this is in CLEAR violation of the First Amendment which gives us the right to petition our government. Wiretaps without warrants in this country are illegal without a warrant issued by a court - let's see, he has violated the Fourth Amendment. By holding "enemy combatants" without representation, a speedy trial, habeas corpus, facing their accuser, etc. are violations of the 5th and 6th. You see Joseph Padilla is an American Citizen! Oh yeah and torture violates the 8th Amendment.

Now, if you think violating the Constitution isn't a crime, then I guess I have no way of convincing you.

State of the Union address - British government still stands by its assessment. Senate Intelligence Committee report indicates some deal with Niger. Even Bob Woodward who is no right winger has publically stated the facts of the Senate report.

100% sure of WMD - We were that sure as well as every major intelligence agency in the world.

al Qaeda link? I assume this is the Bush quote you refer to - ""We also know that Iraq is harboring a terrorist network headed by a senior al Qaeda terrorist planner. This network runs a poison and explosives training camp in northeast Iraq, and many of its leaders are known to be in Baghdad," he said. " You don't have to like it but it is true.

I watched the address on aircraft carrier. I had no problem understanding what he meant. I was also smart enought to know that the job would not be finished for some time.

First Amendment - Yes, you have the right to petition the government but it doesn't say that the president must answer the door and take your petitions. Have you tried the legislative or judicial branches?

Wiretaps - Who? Which ones? FISA ok'ed or not FISA ok'ed? Inter or intra country communications?

Enemy combatants - Are they citizens of the US? If not then ammendments don't apply.

Joseph Padilla? Do you mean Jose Padilla? Would you have felt better if he had a military uniform on? Is there any action that a US citizen can take that would justify being classified as an enemy?

Jeff Pruitt said...

Good lord you are so misinformed it's not even worth anyone's time to rebut your points.

Jose Padilla was an American citizen and the US constitution clearly applies to him but the Bush administration ignored it in labeling him an enemy combatent. They only removed that status when it was clear the case was going to the Supreme Court where they would be dealt a decisive defeat.

And surely you jest on the Baghdad Al Qaeda link? This has been disproven so many times.

And the Niger Yellowcake deal? Are you f'in kidding me? This has be PROVEN false. And it's been shown that the Bush administration KNEW it was false when they continues to use it as ammo.

I'm glad you're reading this blog - we can open your eyes to the truth. Welcome...

Open my eyes to the truth? Is that a foil hat you're wearing? This seems to be a typical left wing fantasy blog. You don't like the truth so you insert fingers in ears and "NAH NAH NAH NAH...." You actually believe the media whore Wilson? I have read his wife's testimony and it is obvious that she played a major role in having him sent to Niger. It has been PROVEN (i capitlize it to make it true) that there were contacts between Iraq and Niger. What was Iraq interested in that Niger had? I guess you want a Visa or Mastercard receipt for the purchase of Yellowcake.

You don't have to like it but there was an Al Qaeda training camp in Iraq. It has been PROVEN that Al Qaeda agents were in Baghdad.

Wow. Now that makes it official. Once you have your very own troll, you are truly annoying the nutjobs!

Jeff and Robert - We are making an impact! I've enjoyed your smackdowns; it's so easy when they're so uninformed or misinformed by right-wing talkers. . .

Bring it on NhsNutter! (I always try to speak in the language of their personal heros)

John, I'm enjoying Nuthouse. He's quaint. He obviously only listens to RW talking points - which as we know are usually made up - and it is also obvious that he doesn't pay attention to the media. Even his Lord and God protector GW Shrub has admitted there were no WMDs in Iraq. This moron probably believes Iraq was behind 9/11. I spent the 4th with people who still believed that piece of tripe. They are fun to play with. I lost my troll from a long time back, and Tim Stank doesn't count as a troll since he got lost down the rabbit hole, so this is indeed fun. I'm thinking about buying one of those little troll dolls, naming it Nuthouse and putting it next to my 'puter.

"media whore"

Yes, the "media whore" who was a covert operative for the CIA working in counter proliferation. The one who never was in the media or cared about being in the spotlight until the Bush cabal decided to ruin her career for political reasons.

This woman is a patriot and served our country valiently doing what's arguably the most important job on the planet. You should be ashamed of yourself.

"It has been PROVEN (i capitlize it to make it true) that there were contacts between Iraq and Niger."

So what? They've had constacts for decades. It's never been proven that they attempted to buy Yellowcake as alleged - NEVER. In fact the documents were PROVEN to be fraudulent. I'm not going to guess as to why they were in Niger but you can read their explanation for yourself.

And for the Iraq-Al Qaeda relationship?
"We have seen no evidence that these or the earlier contacts ever developed into a collaborative operational relationship. Nor have we seen evidence indicating that Iraq cooperated with al Qaeda in developing or carrying out any attacks against the United States."

RR - I don't doubt you still play with dolls. Are you one of the 30+% of democracts that believe Bush was responsible for 9/11? Talking points?? Your blog is nothing but whacko left wing talking points. How much time did you spend typing the word impeach?

Jeff p - Try reading my post again. I wasn't calling Valerie a media whore. Wilson was the media whore. He starts with the lie that he went to Niger at the VP's request. Even Wilson said that Irag tried to establish commercial connections. It has never been proven that they attempted to buy yellowcake but I would be suspicious of any contact. Even Mayaki the Prime minister of Niger thought the request for expanded commercial contacts meant the sale of yellowcake. This isn't based on the forged Italian documents but on Wilson and the Senate select committee on intelligence.

I'm sorry....did my post say that Iraq and Al Qaeda carried out attacks together? No. I just tire of you left wingers defending Hussein - You are more interested proclaiming America evil then recognizing the evil that was Hussein.

Jeff Pruitt said...

"I just tire of you left wingers defending Hussein - You are more interested proclaiming America evil then recognizing the evil that was Hussein."

Come on. If you're going to debate me then you're going to have to do it w/ substance. I have never said "America is evil" and no other "left winger" I know has either. That's just ridiculous.

And now we're back to the Senate Select Committee on intelligence report? That was a partisan report and has been discredited to all but the most loyal Bushies.

I keep saying this, but the more time you spend here the more you're going to realize that the media you're listening to (Faux, Hannity, Rush, etc) are distorting the truth in the most transparent way...

Your statements make it clear who you defend and who you attack.

I listen to Fox, CNN, CBS, MSNBC. I read NY Times, Wash Post, WSJ, LA Times, Guardian.
I browse National Review, Daily Kos, Town Hall Conservative, CNN.

I am not a mind numb robot like so many on the left. You can stick with your liberal news sources but I choose to investigate all sides. I choose not to let hate, fantasy and conspiracy lead me. You can follow your Olbermanns to whatever flights of fancy bring joy to your life.
