Tracy Warner on 2nd District Recount
Tracy Warner has an excellent column in today's JG that explains a little history behind recent recounts. He also uses the historical data to hypothesize that the 2nd District Council results will probably stay the same. I can't blame Don Schmidt for requesting the recount - 13 votes is an extremely small margin of victory. However, I look forward to officially celebrating Goldner's victory...

I would agree with Tracy. I was part of the recount teams on both the Henry and the Crawford recount. It is likely that there will be a few votes that move one way or the other, but it will be unlikely that Schmidt will win. The process does add legitimacy to an already tight race.
Given the often sordid nature of the past election season, I would have expected to hear someone claim that Schmidt was a sore loser and that he was trying to steel the election. To see the allegations passed on to Steve Shine and the Election Board would not have been unthinkable. This is not a partisan slam. I would have expected the same thing if Goldner was down by thirteen points.
Evidently, we're just a bunch of vicious pricks before the election. I am very glad to see that no one is criticizing the recount.
