Breaking - Major Fire Just North of Downtown Fort Wayne

Early reports say the fire looks like it's on Wells between State and Coliseum

Update - WOWO reports the fire is at the entrance of the zoo where all the construction is

Update2 - Nicole Pence reports on WOWO that the styrofoam rocks that are part of the new African exhibit caught on fire while they were being cut. I tried to make my way down there but I waited too long and the traffic was horrendous...

Update3 - Stephen over at AroundFortWayne.com has some good photos too

I believe it's from part of the construction at the Zoo's African Veldt.

Robert,

Sorry I bumped your post but I wanted to get the photos at the top. Feel free to bump yours back to the top now that the fire is under control...

I was at the Goodyear dealer at Hillegas and California Roads when this went down. Everyone wondered where it as coming from - only a mile away as it turned out.

Oh the humanity! Ok, that was probably in bad taste. I hope no one was hurt.

I've got a few more pictures in this album on my website (taken from the same office windows as Jeff's pictures).

This comment does not indicate any endorsement on my part of any viewpoints posted in this blog :)

Perhaps I'm stepping beyond the bounds of this post here, but why in the hell are they using friggin' styrofoam rocks instead of real ones? I think the real ones would be a helluva lot cheaper, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have caught fire.

given the wizard of oz theme of the Kelty cake, it loks more like a n evil tornado, portending the demolition of the Kelty campaign-
or is it just "up in smoke"?
and ask yourself this- why are thye using such highly flammable materials in a building where children will be? even fiberglass, painted, would make more snese, and not be so flammable.
oh well- your tax dollars at work..
another day in FTW.
