Nelson Peters has conceded to Matt Kelty in the primary battle for the Republican nomination for Fort Wayne mayor. Widely considered the favorite when he announced plans to run for Fort Wayne's highest elected office, Peters will now continue his duties as an Allen County Commissioner. Kelty, a local architecht, has never held public office before, however he did narrowly miss defeating Democrat Win Moses in a bid for state representative several years ago. Kelty will face Democrat Tom Henry in the November general election.
Congratulations to our new mayor, Tom Henry!

I don't know John. Peters seemed like the bigger hurdle.

Henry is:
-popular in Fort Wayne
-has solid political experience
-has lots of political connections
-is a firebrand of a speaker
-a solid hit with the base and huge cross-over appeal, especially to disgruntled republicans.
Hell, if just his family votes for him, he'll carry it! ;)

Kelty will beat Henry in my opinion.

You cannot be saying that Henry is a better speaker then Kelty? Kelty is a great speaker... I have never heard Henry speak so I am not sure how good he is.
Henry may have crossover appeal... I imagine you are right about this point...
Henry does have a big family and that will help...
I think Kelty will win.

Henry barely lost in a HEAVILY Republican district. I don't think that is a good predictor for a city wide race...

Didier may have been a POLITICAL newcomer, but that family name obviously carried ALOT of weight in that recently-expanded-to-tilt-towards-republicans district. And, as Jeff pointed out, it was a squeaker.

Tom Henry has connections that transcend party. Peters was a GOP establishment favorite who was rammed down everyone's throat by the local command hierarchy. Again, as Jeff stated, Steve bet the farm, and lost. Some will forgive, many will cross over to Henry in November.
