Local wingnut defends Steve Shine
"Steve ShineNovember 29th, 2006
I’ve got to get my two cents in on this bullsh*t.
John Good - he’s an assh*le.
Kevin Knuth - ditto
Benjamin Lanka - same.
Shitrific Sheri - Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Nicole Lee, Kevin Leininger and Jeff Wiehe - What the fsck? This is news?
Boys & girls; it’s none of your damn business. What the hell does his personal life have to do with his party chair? Nothing, nada, zip. This is not news.
You people really need to get a life. You’re pathetic."
MAN! I don't even know where to start rebutting this primate's ranting and drooling!
I guess I'll start with his final comments and work backwards. Maybe he can follow along that way, if I type very slowly and do alot of explaining. . .
"Boys & girls; it’s none of your damn business. What the hell does his personal life have to do with his party chair? Nothing, nada, zip. This is not news."
It has at least as much relevence as Bill Clinton getting a blow job had to do with his job as president, you moron. I guess "personal life" only matters to you if it's one of YOUR boys who's in trouble. . .Clinton got blown by an intern; Shine assaulted his WIFE in some manner in their driveway to the point that she called 911. That makes Clinton an adulterer, and Shine guilty of SOME form of spousal abuse, what type and extent we will not know until all of the details are out. You like to paint yourself as some great defender of moral values and exposer of sexual offenders or controlling assholes. Get a clue, asshat. You're guilty by association if you blindly "stand by your man".
I'm actually quite surprised that you attacked News Sentinel reporters as well as Journal Gazette reporters. Apparently ALL media people are assholes when they report news that you would rather not see reported. . .and I'm sure that most of them have long memories when it comes to being blasted for merely doing their job.

More on Shine 911 Call
This Allen County Sheriff's dispatch log reports a call for a code 46 ("Domestic Disturbance") and a code 96 ("Battery").

Limited details are available in this State Police report. Apparently there was a domestic disturbance of some sort and Mrs.Shine attempted to leave the premises. Mr.Shine, in trying to prevent this action, attempted to reach into her vehicle and shut off the ignition, instead breaking off the ignition key.

Fort Wayne Left is privy to other details not yet reported about this incident. We anticipate that the actual 911 call record may shine more light onto the details of that evening. . .and we will report them as they are brought to light.

Fort Wayne - 1934

This is my oldest dated roadmap of Fort Wayne. I have a number of others from years in between then and now. Unfortunately, they are not Gousha maps and lack the detail that you see here. Note the not so politically correct name for Park Center on State Street (Barely within the city limits in that era) : "Indiana School for Feeble-Minded Youths".
If you were "of means", you could purchase one of the stately new homes going up along Rudisill Boulevard in the new "suburbs". If you were traveling through town on US 30 or US 24, you'd need to pay close attention to the signs as several turns and street changes were involved!
A trip to Indianapolis was quite an adventure as well. Both of the usual routes taken involved over 100 miles of two-lane blacktop (at best) that ran through every town imaginable along the way. It would remain that way for nearly thirty more years. . .

Typepad suspends local blogger
Mr.Turkette's sole redeeming value is his crusade against child-molesters. He regularly posts their profiles in a "Fort Wayne's Most Wanted" sort of way. His friends often point to this as a reason to disregard the rest of the content on his site. I strongly disagree with this mindset. Supporting the prosecution of and voicing your opinion against deviants who molest our children does not make one admirable or place one upon a pedestal; IT SHOULD BE EXPECTED! Other than the aforementioned deviants, we ALL do anything and everything we can to protect our kids. I am pleased that these accused offenders are profiled by Mr.Turkette. This does not, however, give him license to attack other law-abiding citizens of different races or viewpoints. Ironically, it appears that his account was suspended DUE to his comments regarding one of these sex offenders.
Indeed, I'm not sure whether HIS rights are being stepped on here. I say that despite HIS constant stepping upon the rights and freedoms of others, including my own. I respect his rights as an American citizen to express his views, even though I disagree with 95% of them. This story is still developing; here are some local viewpoints:

Sorry, Everybody (NE Indiana Edition)
On behalf of the 46% of us in Indiana's Third District who not only voted for Dr.Tom Hayhurst, but campaigned hard for him, manned phone banks, walked in parades, toured the entire district with Tom to introduce him to others, and worked to get out the vote. . .We're truly sorry. We delivered Allen County, no small feat in itself, but were slightly offset in the final weeks of the campaign by the realization of the NRCC and the Indiana GOP that Mark Souder REALLY WAS in trouble here, and their successful efforts to reach out to the mouth-breathing kool-aid drinkers throughout the rest of our area who buy into anything and everything that they are told by these people. I'm talking to YOU, Kosciusko and Elkhart counties, in particular. Here's my analysis for you:
Souder warned that Hayhurst would vote for amnesty for legal immigrants (read that back a few times if you're a regular WOWO listener). Why does a LEGAL immigrant need amnesty? The laws that Hayhurst support are, in fact, the same laws that Souder voted for FOUR times.
Souder warned that if you voted for Tom Hayhurst, you would be voting for Nancy Pelosi. You voted for Souder; Nancy Pelosi has just been declared our new Speaker of the House regardless. You have not only wasted your vote on this one, but you (and the rest of us) are now stuck with a congressman who has effectively been neutered.
The GOP Contract With America was not only NOT FOLLOWED by it's member's (including Souder), but has now been shredded, doused in alcohol, and burned to the cheers of greater America. Way to stay on the sidelines and go down with the ship. . .
You may have hesitated and had moments of clarity in the run-up to this election. For most of you, that clarity was erased by national support for Mr.Souder by the criminal element of his own party. You know; the bribe-takers, toys of corporate-America, child-molesters, etc. They went to bat for this guy, and you bought into it. I can only assume that you approve of their behavior, you "values voters". Apparently scandal is a northeastern Indiana value. . .
60% of America think that we're on the wrong track, headed in the wrong direction, and want us to get out of Iraq. YOU just voted to stay the course. . .and then you wonder why people poke fun at Hoosiers. Look in the mirror, Sodomites, err Souder-mites.
In closing, turn off WOWO, read a few newspapers other than the News-Sentinel and The Paper, do some research online, and try to be more informed. It only hurts for a little while, except for the last six years. Those have hurt America greatly, due to rollovers by the media and the lack of an informed electorate. Stop being part of the great uninformed populace and become involved!
Good night, and good luck. . .

More tomorrow! It's late and I may have missed a few. . .

Why Republicans Should Vote For Tom Hayhurst
First off, let me start by saying Mark Souder is no conservative. In fact the case against Souder has been made so many times and is so obvious I won't even bother repeating it - instead, I will simply stipulate it. However, I understand that a broader picture must be taken into account when choosing between two candidates. I'm sure it's extremely difficult for many conservatives to vote for Souder but the alternative is to support the Democratic party and that has just been out of the question. In a sense, Mark Souder is right when he says "a vote for Tom Hayhurst is a vote for Nancy Pelosi". Sometimes you HAVE to vote for a candidate because you believe in the party and its platform - even if you don't agree with the local candidate.
However, this logic breaks down when the national race isn't in doubt. If casting out a bad seed won't affect the party's position, then an argument can be made that you should send a message to your local and national party. NOW is the time for this district to send that message and purge Souder from the party. There is no doubt in my mind that superior Republican candidates would come forward if Souder was out of the picture. Waiting for primary elections isn't the best strategy because up-and-comers don't want to cross the party establishment by challenging an incumbent with over a decade of seniority.
The Congressional race isn't in doubt - the Democrats are most likely going to win the House regardless of what happens in this district. This presents a genuine opportunity for Republicans that are sick and tired of Mark Souder to turn this district upside down - for the better. The public discourse would be elevated tremendously with Souder out of the picture. Mark Souder and the Republican party have not lived up to their Contract with America - remember they ALL said:"If we break this Contract, throw us out"It's time to hold Mark Souder accountable to this district, the Republican party and the pledge he made to America - VOTE TOM HAYHURST ON TUESDAY...
(This original post by Jeff Pruitt appeared today in Just For the Record.) While we don't normally agree with many of the opinions there, the addition of Mr.Pruitt to the editorial staff is a welcome inclusion that provides balance to the strong conservative views of Tim Zank, to whom blog owner Andrew Kaduk seems to have left in charge of most of the new content as of late.

More on illegal GOP calls
Posturing High Ethics, Republicans Continue to Violate State Law
Illegal Robo-Calls for State, Congressional Candidates Bombard Region
A call to the Allen County Republican Party confirmed that approximately 3,000 illegal calls were made by the Kevin Howell campaign. Unlawful robo-calls from outside the area are also still pummeling residents in the Congressional race.
“The Republican Party is out of control. They even flaunt their illegal behavior,” said Knuth. “Throughout this campaign season, the Republicans have resorted to breaking the law in an attempt to promote their candidates. Their strategy appears to be ‘break the law today, and then deal with the fall out after the election.’ But candidates that break the law in pursuit of elected office cannot be expected to make good laws or keep the law upon election, the laws that every citizen is required to keep every day without exception.”
Robo-calls are pre-recorded messages that play as soon as the recipient answers the phone or it is picked up by an answering machine. Phone numbers are dialed by a computer known as an “autodialer.” Under
“The Allen County Democratic Party has a phone bank using live citizen volunteers,” said Knuth. “It would take us two days to make the number of calls the illegal autodialer did in just a few hours. We believe in grassroots democracy with people who support local candidates calling their friends and neighbors to talk with them personally. We follow the law. It appears the Republicans know that they cannot win playing by the rules, so they are simply going to ignore the law.”
Knuth also received complaints yesterday that the NRA was using robo-calls to promote Mark Souder. These calls come on the heels of complaints about robo-calls employed by the National Republican Congressional Committee attacking Tom Hayhurst on the behalf of Mark Souder. There also have been reports that the Marion County Republican Party has been using robo-calls to aid Prosecutor candidate Carl Brizzi. The practice seems to be rampant.
“I know that at least two other citizens of
Editor's note: According to Mr.Knuth, Kevin Howell today admitted to making illegal robo-calls. Of course he says that the firm he hired was suppose to use a live operator. How convenient. . .
Isn't that the same as the "I forgot armed robbery was illegal in this state!" defense?

Statement of Third District Congressional candidate Dr. Tom Hayhurst on the issues of keeping America safe and bringing the Iraq War to an honorable conclusion:
What Mark Souder has been trying to do for the past month is change the subject. You and I know the real subject, the main concern we all share, is Iraq. We are concerned about our leaders' failure to fight a competent war and to keep America safe. We know the loss of life is hollow, if we don't face the facts and develop a sound plan. One hundred deaths in October alone. Nearly 3,000 deaths in total. Our President continues to stay the course and just yesterday the Vice President proclaimed "full speed ahead" on Iraq. The only place full speed ahead on Iraq will take America is straight off the cliff to nowhere.
My opponent has spent the last month talking about illegal immigration. He wants you to forget about Iraq and how vulnerable America still is. He has lied about his own record of strong support for amnesty for illegals just to get elected. He has no plan of his own to deal with this problem. And he has used every dirty trick in
the book personally or through his party leaders to try and get you to forget their failures in Iraq and failure to secure America. But I know Hoosiers are smarter than that. You can see through their fog of misinformation.
It is time for new leadership, for new eyes and minds and hearts with fresh and honest perspectives to deal with the crucial issues of our time. The election on November 7 is about who will best find an honorable end to this questionable war gone bad. Who will have the courage and know-how to do it and do it right? Who
will actually work to keep America safe, not just talk about it? I will do those things when I am in Congress.
Will we be the America that bloodies a country and then abandons it? Will we be the America that refuses to admit our mistakes and then fails to make them right? Will we be the America that puts politics ahead of people and the security of our great nation? I say no, and again I say no. In Congress, I will be a firm voice on the side of an honest assessment of Iraq followed by determined action to address the reality of this war gone bad, to find an honorable conclusion to it, and to find a resolution that leaves America safer.
I will not accept an administration that would leave America less secure for its own political gain. My opponent is part of the team responsible for the mess we are in. You cannot expect to get new wine from an old bottle. You cannot expect to get new ideas from leaders who are more concerned about rationalizing their past mistakes than keeping America safe.
Mark Souder is part of the team that has failed America in Iraq. Mark Souder is part of the team that failed America when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit. That team told us all by their actions: If disaster befalls you, you are on your own. I cant and wont accept that kind of incompetence.
Now five years after 9/11 our leaders have yet to implement the wise, bipartisan recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. America is less safe today. Our borders and our ports are still sieves, keeping us at risk and worsening illegal immigration. And the Homeland Security Department is a mess.
Mark Souder had the chance to seek the leadership of the House Homeland Security Committee. He ran away from it. He had the chance to really do something to protect northeast Indiana and America, but he chose to hide from an opportunity to lead. He ducked and ran yet again.
Northeast Indiana needs a real leader, someone of courage, someone who stood to serve his country in the military when the opportunity came, someone unafraid to fight the difficult battles, someone who will put the people before political opportunity, someone who will be both tough and smart, someone who will keep his word. I pledge that I will be that voice for you in Congress.

Allen County GOP: A complete lack of respect for the law!
"At 4:05PM today I received a "robo-call" from Kevin Howell, who is running for State Rep in District 80. The message was a recorded message from Kevin Howell."
In case anyone's not clear on this one, "robo-calls", or pre-recorded political calls, are illegal in the state of Indiana.
I don't know why I am even surprised by the state and local party's continuing nose-thumbing at the law. I mean, they're just folowing the national Republican Party's example, right?

Indiana Republican Party Chairman Murray Clark Asks Democrat Congressional Candidates: Will You Vote for Nancy Pelosi?
Indianapolis--Indiana Republican Party Chairman Murray Clark asks Democrat Congressional Candidates to state whether they support San Francisco Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House in the event of a Democrat takeover of the House of Representatives.
"Baron Hill, Brad Ellsworth, and Joe Donnelly need to tell Hoosiers if they will support Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House," stated Clark. "According to a national publication, Nancy Pelosi is among the most liberal members of Congress. She has consistently voted to keep partial-birth abortion legal, against our efforts to secure energy independence, and against tax cuts."
"These candidates have dodged this question the entire year, but it's time to tell voters if they agree with Nancy Pelosi on the issues and want her to be their leader in the House of Representatives," continued Clark.
A Look at Pelosi's Voting Record
"House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi would bring to the office a level of left-wing liberalism that will be unprecedented. In the National Journal's 2005 ideological ratings, which were based on scores of votes, Mrs. Pelosi was ranked more liberal than 91 percent of her House colleagues on economic issues, 96 percent on social matters and 82 percent on foreign-policy issues. Here are her relative rankings (economic, social, foreign) for 2004 (93, 88, 81), 2003 (92, 89, 70), 2002 (88, 84, 90) and 2001 (94, 83, 93).
Until she received a 95 percent liberal rating in 2005 from the Americans for Democratic Action (the nation's pre-eminent liberal organization), Mrs. Pelosi had racked up five consecutive years (2000-04) of 100 percent ratings. Her lifetime ADA rating is 96 percent. Last year, the American Conservative Union gave her a 0 rating. Her lifetime ACU rating is 3 percent.
Typical for her 20-year House career, Mrs. Pelosi received a 100 percent rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America last year and a 0 rating from the National Right to Life Committee. A Roman Catholic who has repeatedly voted to uphold partial-birth abortion, who has voted against parental notification when minor children seek abortion and who has shown no concern for the rights of the innocent unborn, Mrs. Pelosi has consistently opposed the death penalty.
Over the years, Mrs. Pelosi has consistently voted against welfare reform, including the 1996 bill signed by President Clinton and its re-authorization. In 1998, she opposed a constitutional amendment to permit school prayer in the classroom. In 1999, she opposed allowing state and local governments to display the Ten Commandments on public property, including schools. She has voted against education IRAs. In 2003, she opposed a $10 million program for school vouchers in the District of Columbia. That same year she voted against the 10-year $400 billion Medicare prescription-drug bill because she preferred one that was twice as expensive. Mrs. Pelosi has repeatedly voted for tax increases and opposed tax cuts, even the 2001 bill that doubled the child tax credit to $1,000, among other cuts.
As the United States has become increasingly dependent on foreign sources for oil, Mrs. Pelosi has always opposed drilling for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In recent years, she has become protectionist -- leading the opposition in 2000 against then-President Clinton's successful effort to establish permanent normal trade relations with China. She also opposed giving Mr. Clinton and Mr. Bush trade-promotion authority; and in 2005 she voted against the Central American Free Trade Agreement. In 2004, she voted to end Radio Marti broadcasts to Cuba. She voted to reduce funds for the B-2 intercontinental bomber, which performed superbly in the 1999 Kosovo War, in 2001 in Afghanistan and in Iraq. Mrs. Pelosi has repeatedly opposed anti-missile defense, even as a nuclear-armed North Korea has tested ballistic missiles."

Souder Supporters Calling Taxpayer Funded Phones
Robo-Call Disrupted Service at
“This represents a new low for the Souder campaign. The phones in Voter Registration are paid for with taxpayer dollars and are not to be used for political campaign purposes,” said Knuth.
“The Voter Registration office worker had to put a live caller on hold to answer the second line, then was unable to get the ‘recording’ to stop. That call could well have prevented a legitimate voter from being assisted in a timely manner. Mark Souder’s increasingly negative, misinformation filled, dirty trick style campaign is a disservice to the taxpayers of this county. I am calling on Mark Souder to stop this madness and to inform his overlords that they must cease and desist,” said Knuth.
Knuth noted that he has received numerous complaints about the calls over the past few days.
The robotized telemarketer making the calls indicated that they are paid for by the National Republican Congressional Committee. A search of the real-time Federal Election Committee database monitoring independent expenditures shows that no filing has been received on this activity. The calls began early in the week.
According to FEC law, within 20 days of an election, independent expenditures must be reported “on the day following the date on which a communication is publicly distributed or otherwise publicly disseminated” if it is in aggregate of $1,000 or more.
Knuth also observed that he has received a sizable volume of anecdotal evidence that many of these calls are targeted to traditional Democratic Primary voters.
“Targeting Democratic Primary voters is nothing short of voter harassment,” Knuth added “A campaign should be waged on the issues, records and character of the candidates. Mark Souder and his
Editor's note: Mr.Knuth states that HE also recieved one of these calls at home today. These guys must REALLY be desperate for votes!

Mark Souder votes with Nancy Pelosi!
Mark Souder lies again
Mark Souder has a bad habit of lying, especially when it is time for re-election. So much for his "Christian values." Mark Souder is currently mad at what he calls "Character assassinations" that are aimed at him. What a hypocrite. Mark Souder cannot seem to make up his mind on many things.
1. In his youth he was a C.O. He did not believe in violence. As he has gotten older he has changed his mind on violence, he now thinks it is OK to commit violence and he now votes to send our troops in harms way. This is a fact and not a "character assassination."
2. In 1994 Mark Souder promised us he would serve a maximum term of 12 years in Congress. Those 12 years are up, yet; he has again changed his mind. In fact, Mark Souder gets mad if anyone brings up his pledge. I thought "Christians" believe in keeping promises?
3. Mark Souder and the NRCC are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars and spreading a lot of mistruths about amnesty for illegal aliens... Mark Souder does not have a strong voting record on amnesty and illegal immigration. Consider this:
Mark Souder was given an "F-" on illegal immigration by "Americans for better immigration."
According to this group Mark Souder has voted in favor of amnesty five times...
Most interesting to me is that in each of these votes, our very own Mark Souder voted WITH Nancy Pelosi on each of these votes...
Mark Souder is running ads claiming that Mark Souder is against illegal immigration; his voting record says otherwise...
4. Mark Souder keeps attacking anyone who is considering voting for Tom Hayhurst as voting for Nancy Pelosi. Interestingly enough Mark Souder has voted with Nancy Pelosi MANY times...
Consider the following:
All five Amnesty bills listed above, Mark Souder voted against conservatives and voted with Nancy Pelsoi...
Sarbanes-Oxley was passed in 2002. This act has cost our publicly traded companies 1 TRILLION dollars to comply with. Mark Souder and Nancy Pelosi both voted for this awful bill.
No Child Left Behind. This bill has nationalized part of our education system. The Federal Government is spending almost twice as much on Education as it did 6 years ago. Mark Souder and Nancy Pelosi both voted for this expansion of government...
Prescription Drug Benefit for Seniors. You guessed it. Mark Souder and Nancy Pelosi both voted for the largest expansion of entitlement programs since LBJ was President...
I am sick and tired of Mark Souder's negative campaign ads and I am sick of Mark trying to hide the fact the he is another Large Government Republican.

Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Allen County
NRCC drops another $73k in 3rd District
Apparently the NRCC shares my lack of confidence in the News-Sentinel poll that favors Mark Souder over Tom Hayhurst. To the tune of $73,475. It's worth noting that they dropped only a slightly higher TOTAL ($75k) on the combined District 8 and 9 races on the same day. So either Hill and Ellsworth are in trouble, or they are more concerned about Tom Hayhurst. . .We're going with the latter.
